Hello all, I have a bit of a dilemma that I desperately need help with...
Known for its spectacular limestone cliffs, verdant jungle scenery and above all its fabulous white beaches, the town of Krabi is the jewel in the crown of Thailand’s Andaman seaboard. It provides a great base for exploring the surrounding area, and its authentic restaurants, upbeat nightlife and abundance of available daytrips have made it popular among western tourists. Here’s what sets this delightful Thai town apart from the rest of the pack.
DialAFlight currently offer some excellent deals on flights to Thailand, starting from £450 including taxes to Bangkok or £600 direct to Krabi (both deals flying from Heathrow). For a relaxing, exotic holiday, there really is no better choice
The beaches: Krabi’s beaches are undoubtedly its premier attractions. Think stunning white sand, lapping azure waters, and plenty of opportunity for snorkeling, scuba diving and boating. There are a number of beaches within walking distance of Krabi, but some of the quieter and more secluded spots are a short boat trip away.
The parties: Krabi is most popular with tourists under 35 – and inevitably that means that there are plenty of places to party. In addition to several backpacker bars and clubs, there are a number of fun-packed festivals throughout the year. Some are suitable for families as well as for singles – the Floating Boats of the Sea Gypsy festival takes place in May and October and celebrates the culture of the sea gypsies through music and dance. Krabi Boek Fa Andaman, the festival that opens the province’s tourist season, is also well worth a look.
The heritage: There’s more to Krabi than beaches and nightlife – the town also has a colourful history with the architecture to prove it. If you’re prepared to brave the climb then the Wat Kaew temple is one of the area’s most spectacular cultural sites – its lofty location offers great views over the town and the ocean beyond.
The food: Whether you prefer western fare or traditional Thai cuisine, there are plenty of places to eat around Krabi. Many of the hotels have excellent restaurants geared to the taste of international tourists, while the waterfront street stalls offer a rather more authentic culinary experience. One of the best food outlets is Ruan Mai – try their fresh seafood or fantastic red and green curries.
Blissing out: Most tourists to Krabi are looking for relaxation – and where better to completely chill out than at one of the resort’s great day spas? For a truly blissful experience, head to the Krabi Maritime Park and Spa Resort or the Adora Spa, where you can refresh your mind and your body with a clay mask or deep massage.
